New Build Housing Update (August 2020)
The Scottish Government has a target to deliver 50,000 new homes during this Parliament, of these, 35,000 will be for social housing. With an increase in the subsidy grant available, Barrhead HA is exploring options to provide more affordable homes in the area. Such plans are incorporated into the East Renfrewshire Council’s strategic programme for delivering more affordable homes across the area.
Neilston Road – in partnership with Taylor Wimpey, worked was completed in August 2020 following a three month delay due to COVID-19. 12 new affordable home for renting – a combination of 2 and 3 bedroomed homes. Press release here
BARRHEAD – Walton street – the Association is continuing to have discussions with regard to a development of one privately owned site here for affordable housing. Discussions have focused around the need to consider the re-alignment of the Levern Water at this bend which have caused delays to this site being progressed.
Barrhead South Masterplan – Barrhead HA are working with developers Avant and Taylor Wimpey to provide social rented housing in two sites at the top end of Auchenback – it is anticipated that work will commence in 2020 with house being available in 2021.
Barrhead Blackbyers/Grahamston Road – Barrhead HA has also now earmarked 10 new homes within Blackbyers Road; a partnership with Bellway Homes within their second phase. Work on this site will commenced June 2020 with homes being delivered summer 2021.
Barrhead Dealston Road – a planning approval has been granted for the development of this site and 8 units have been earmarked for affordable rented homes – we hope that the approved developer will be announced soon.
Strategic Housing Investment Plan for East Renfrewshire – this is prepared by East Renfrewshire Council in consultation with local developers and approved by Council’s Cabinet before submission to the Scottish Government. Essentially it represents a bid for funding and allows the Scottish Government to agree a funding programme for the area. The SHIP for 2019-2024 has now been approved by the Council and confirms an ambitious programme of new homes for the local authority area. Barrhead HA has been identified as a key partner to deliver this programme of new homes to the area.
