At Barrhead Housing Association we want to be proactive in working to improve our neighbourhoods, ensuring that they are pleasant, safe and secure.

We recognise that estate management is not soley about looking after buildings and the physical environment. It is also about providing or arranging the necessary advice and support for our tenants and residents. Our new customer services team members are now available to help with all aspects of services to our customers and they are the first point of contact should our customers have any queries. Each customer services officer has an allocated geographical patch, see below. We want our services to be responsive and appropriate to the local needs of our communities. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have a problem. However, looking after our communities also involved working in partnership with a range of local services and providers.

Garden Maintenance: the tenancy agreement will provide information on the responsibility for garden maintenance and this will be discussed with individual tenants at the point of taking up a tenancy. However, we have been rolling out a full garden maintenance service as part of the tenancy agreement where we charge tenants for the service. Tenants can opt out of the service if they agree to maintain the garden to an agreed standard – this should be discussed with the Association’s customer services team.

Common Area Landscaping: the Association will maintain common areas to a clean and tidy standard and will apply a service charge to cover the costs. Regular inspections of common ground and play areas are undertaken, and we maintain paths and walkways in our ownership. Where there are incidents of grafitti, faulty/damaged lighting or fencing, we will repair these. Deliberate damage will be re-charged where appropriate.

Communal Cleaning: it is important that flatted developments are also kept clean and tidy so that the condition of the building does not deteriorate. Individual tenants will be provided details when taking up the tenancy. We offer a close cleaning service in a number of flatted developments and a service charge is included to cover the costs.

Door Entry Systems: flatted properties have a shared entrance door and therefore a door entry system to prevent unauthorised access to the building. The door entry systems are designed with safety and security of tenants in mind and protect the communal areas of the building. Deliberate damage to door entries may result in re-charges being made to those responsible.

While we work with our customers and local agencies, there are some services we are not wholly responsible for. We will help our customers receive services as we work in partnership with a wide range of service providers including the local authority East Renfrewshire Council’s community wardens team for anti-social behaviour issues/environmental health/cleansing/social work etc, Police Scotland, fire and rescue, and a  range of voluntary organisations.

East Renfrewshire Council responsibilities include – refuse disposal, general litter and bulk uplift and fly tipping, abandoned vehicles, and dog fouling. We participate in a range of wider estate management walk-abouts and attend a variety of partnership meetings to discuss particular issues.
